front and back. the end.

Have you ever had what seemed to be a great idea and then somewhere in the middle the excitement wanes and reality shows up?

That is pretty much how this project worked out. I am not going to lie, there were days where I did not care to work on it at all, but I made a commitment and I stick to them as best I can.

All that anguish went away when I saw my completed piece. There was great satisfaction in realizing that I made a book. Sure, there are tons of errors and I would do a lot differently if I were to do it again, but I created something fun and learned a lot in the process including the truth that not all books need titles.

Book made by me out of Fabriano Artistico 140lb hot press watercolor paper tied up with waxed linen thread. The only portion of this book that does not have paint on it is the white part of the Union Jack on the back cover.

day sixteen. word games.

To wrap up the sixteenth day, here is a little word association:

Synchronized Swimming: Sonja Henie’s tutu. Yes, she was a figure skater but I always remember wrong that she was a synchronized swimmer. The mind works in mysterious ways.

Tennis: Grunting. Tennis used to be quiet, now it’s all grunts and squeaky shoes which makes it close to basketball in the unwatchable category. Squeaky shoes make me crazy.

Velodrome: :: crickets ::

Trampoline: Anne S’s tongue. We were never allowed to have a trampoline nor were we allowed to use one as terrible things would befall us if we did. I sneaked a jump a time or two right up until my neighbor and fellow classmate Anne jumped off hers and her front tooth broke off in the middle of her tongue. True story.

While I await the results of my beloved ink pencils, I am learning to use something else. So in an effort to force myself to do this, I will be painting something every day during the Olympics using tube watercolors and posting it here. You will be happy to know that the testing is past the ten day mark and the results are better than I feared.

day fifteen. foiled again.

Whenever I hear the word fencing in the non-yard context, I immediately think of the Princess Bride.

“Inconceivable!”
“You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

day fourteen. the long road.

I am not a runner and do not understand this form of torture exercise. The mom in me wants to give these people a bottle of water and a sandwich.
